Description

So I've figured out how to move images from my tablet to the PC to here without compressing them! Yay! It's super-tedious! Yay!

I've got two versions of this (22nd century Romulan Bird of Prey, again). As I've noted elsewhere, I REALLY like the design of this ship. It's kind of clumsy and primitive-looking (characteristics I tend to like), and has some really cool lines which evoke (to me at least) Probert's classic Romulan Warbird. This angle of the BoP shows (or tries to) some of the cool shapes on the bottom of the craft which evoke Probert's design for me. I can't really say what, specifically, reminds me of the Warbird--just something about how the curves blend into one another and how the decks break off into little "ledges."

Anyway, this is the "final" version. The process I've gotten into involves making three layers: the super-rough sketch where lines are just all over the place, the more polished sketch where all of the lines are more-or-less where I think they ought to be--and then the final layer (what this is) where I do single-lines for everything, nice and crisp and black and clean, and carefully make sure all of the coloring fits properly.

It's the most time-consuming layer (for obvious reasons) where I try to make everything perfect. As you can see, not everything is quite perfect in this one. Oh well.

Color-wise I was thinking that green would be the "normal" color for Romulan ships, and white/tan would be the color for ships belonging to the Emperor/Imperial family (and thus would the different color-schemes in TOS be reconciled). I like the idea of "Imperial White."

I considered drawing a big bird of prey on the bottom, but... that's hard to do in ideal circumstances, and the bottom of Eaves' BoP is just too dynamic to really draw wings and feathers well. I settled for giving the "Imperial" ship some bright red fringe along the wings, which kind of look like feathers to me.
